Might not be so hard to believe since the big box retailers reminded us that Christmas is right around the corner by stocking decorations after Halloween, or earlier! Anyhow, Christmas is indeed upon us with less than 25 days to go.

Maybe you are a “bah humbuger,” but I’ll bet some of your site visitors are not. Let’s add a little holiday festivity to your site.

WordPress is perfectly capable of playing your audio files, just add them to your library and include a link to your page or post. This method is a bit limited as you’ll have to use one link per tune. And, playback options are limited.

Consider using the nifty light-weight, free plugin; “Compact WP Audio Player” instead. You’ll get two template styles plus the ability to auto play (use as background music), loop your music, and of course, add as many tracks as you wish to the player. MP3 and/or OGG file formats are supported. Complete usage documentation can be found HERE.

Anticipation, a sense of urgency, that’s what it’s all about! Consider adding a countdown clock to your site. If you are into ecommerce and are featuring holiday sales, this is a must!

If you are using a page builder with your site’s theme, likely, there is a countdown timer module included you can customize for your purposes. Here, I’m using the most excellent Divi Builder from Elegant Themes:

You'd Better Be Nice!

Yes, you can add some CSS to your theme to generate a “falling snow effect,” but hey, ’tis the season to slow down, relax, and let a plugin do it for you. My choice displayed here is the excellent free plugin; “Tribulant Snow Storm” by Tribulant Software.

I wanted a plugin which allows me to display the falling snow per post or page and Tribulant Snow Storm affords this option. Hence, it’s only “snowing” on this page. Bonus(es), have a look at the cornucopia of optional special effects:

Sure, there are plenty of WordPress weather plugins available, but my all-time favorite is the freebie; “Weather Atlas Widget”. So many options, and completely accurate!

  • Responsive web design adapts to mobile displays
  • Easily styles to suit your theme
  • Weather icons
  • Current conditions, hourly and long-term forecast
  • Detailed forecast
  • Users’ ability to set preferred weather location
  • Placement in content or sidebar
  • Any location worldwide
  • Multi languages and units
  • Multiple widgets option
  • Easy setup

Set this to the location of your choice – The North Pole, perhaps?

Wishing you and yours a very, Merry Christmas, happiest of holidays!
